A Brief Introduction

FLTRP is an academic publisher affiliated to Beijing Foreign Studies University. It was established in 1979 and merged with Beijing Foreign Language Audiovisual Press, another publisher attached to Beijing Foreign Studies University,in 1995.

Taking as our task the promotion and popularization of foreign language teaching and research in China, we are now expanding and fast becoming a scholarly and educational publishing group. 300 million copies of FLTRP titles have been published and distributed since our establishment, which tells the story of our unquestionable social impact and is a proof of the well established reputation and scope of our publications.

FLTRP publishes in a widest range of foreign languages as compared with other publishers in the country. Besides publications in English, Russian, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Arabic, we also publish textbooks and reference books in Esperanto, Swedish, Czech, Romanian, Polish, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croatian, Albanian, Sinhalese, Swahili, Cambodian, Laotian, Thai, Myanmese, Malay and Indonesian, as well as Chinese textbooks for foreign learners.

The FLTRP staff is characterized by their youthful vitality. Most of its 450 members are young or middle-aged specialised personnel, among whom are a large group of young talented editors. All of the editors, more than forty in number, have obtained their Ph. D or MA degrees in foreign languages from distinguished universities at home, and quite a few editors have received training overseas. Such a strong contingent is a sure guarantee for our future development. In 1998, FLTRP was chosen as a “fine publisher” by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Press Bureau.
