All applicants should have a high school education and be in good health.

They should be prepared to obey Chinese laws and the regulations of BFSU.

■ Enrolment Conditions

1. Candidates for Bachelor of Arts

Those wishing to apply for a BA degree should be between the ages of 18 and 30 and should submit a high school diploma or other higher education qualifications. Those who are undergraduates in other universities with advanced proficiency in their target language and Level 6 or higher on HSK need to pass the our examination for placement in appropriate courses. Students entering with transferred credits from other university are required to study at BFSU for at least two years.

2. Candidates for Master of Arts

Those wishing to apply for Master of Arts should be below the age of 45 and have a Bachelor's degree or higher.

Students wishing to study Chinese language and culture should pass Level 7 or higher on their HSK.

3. General or advanced students

Students should be between the ages of 18 and 60, with a record of high school standing or higher education.

Those who study for one semester (18 weeks) or more are long-term students.

Those who study less than a semester (18 weeks) are short-term students.

■ Preparation of Application Materials

1. A completed Application Form for Study at BFSU (provided by BFSU)

2. A guarantee Statement signed by a guarantor preferably living in China

3. Copy of passport

4. Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (only for those applying for “X” visa)

5. Copies of graduation certificates and transcripts from high school or higher educational institutions.

6. Students applying for a Master's degree or advanced studeies should provide two letters of recommendation from their former professors.

7. Advanced students or scholars should provide a detailed research plan.

■ Application

Applicants should ask for the Application Form from the Overseas Students Affairs Office of BFSU. The completed Application Form and other materials required above should be mailed back to BFSU Overseas Students Affairs Office, along with three passport-size photos of the applicant and a nonrefundable application fee in the form of a check. This should be done three months in advance of the semester in which the applicant wishes to start. Our office will respond within 30 days upon receiving the application.

If response is delayed due to unclear address or incomplete application forms, the office will not be held responsible.

■ Enrollment

Admitted students will receive the following documents:

Admission Notification of BFSU, Form JW201/JW202 issued by the Ministry of Education of PRC and Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (only for students applying for an “X” Visa).

■ Visa Application

With the Admission Notification and JW201/202 Form, the applicants may apply for a visa at their local Chinese Embassy or Consulate.

1. Students who will be enrolled for one year or more must apply for an “X” visa.

2. Students who will be enrolled for one semester (6 months or less) must apply for an “F” or “X” visa.

3. Students who will be enrolled for one month or less can apply for an “L” visa themselves with no visa application form.

4. Students with an “X” visa must obtain a Residence Permit at the local police station within 30 days after entering the country.

■ Registration

1. Register at the appropriate place and time as directed.

2. Students should present their passport. Admission Notification, JW201/202 Form and Physical Examination Record (the original copy) so as to apply for residence permit.

3. Prepare four passport-size photos.

4. Arrange accommodation.

5. Pay the fees.

6. Students with an “X” visa need to go to the Health Quarantine Department and obtain a Physical and Health Certificate. If the Health records (valid only for 6 months) are out of date, or some items are not in order, then a re-examination is necessary. Residence permit and other procedures are dealt with only after students pass the certificate inspection.

7. The classes can be attended only after the entire registration process has been completed.
