Post-graduate education at BFSU has developed rapidly since post-graduate programs were reintroduced in 1978 and since academic degrees were awarded for the first time in 1981. By the end of 1997, BFSU has recruited 56 Ph.D. students and 1245 MA students. The number of people who have successfully completed their post-graduate studies and been awarded Ph.D. degrees or Master¨s degrees are 21 and 667, respectively.
There are 7 Ph.D. programs and 11 MA programs at BFSU. The post-graduate programs in English language and literature constitute one of the key research programs in China. At present, there are 21 Ph.D. supervisors, 36 Ph.D. candidates and 279 MA students. The university recruits 25students in the Ph.D. programs and 110 students in the MA programs (90 of them are funded by the state).
The course World Literature is offered to post-graduate students in all disciplines on campus while another 48 courses for individual disciplines and 235 compulsory courses for individual programs are offered. A total number of 249 elective courses are offered for these programs.
