BFSU’s AEC now boasts a young and competent faculty, Chinese and foreign, full-time and part-time. It is presently a somewhat complete education venture. It comprises Higher Adult Education Degree Programs Office (Adult Education Degree Programs and “Correspondence” Program), BFSU Training Centers (Training Center One, Training Center Two on the campus), Xiangshan (Fragrance Hill) Training Center, and Foreign Language Study and Research Center for Beijing Adult Education Teachers, with administrative and general services offices, audio-visual labs, and a library. AEC also boasts an Advisory Board, composed of renowned scholars, such as Professor Xiong Deni, Professor Chen Lin, Professor Liu Cheng Pei, Professor Ding Wang Dao, Professor Luo Ting Liang, Professor Wang Jia Xiang, Professor Li De, Professor Zhu Kai, Professor Liu Xiao Pei, Professor Bian Xue Heng, and Professor Guan Yi. The “Night University” was officially launched in 1983. Since then, nearly 3,000 students have graduated. HAEDP once offered courses in 7 foreign languages: English, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Spanish and Arabic. Presently, HAEDP offers 3-year courses in English, Japanese, Spanish and Arabic, leading to an Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree, part-time (3-year AA programs and 3-year BA programs) and full-time (2-year AA programs and 4-year BA programs). The courses HAEDP offers include: General English (General Japanese, General Spanish, General Arabic, etc.), Reading, Conversation, Oral Interpretation, Written Translation, Listening, Writing, Watch-Listen-Talk (discussions on movies watched), Arts Studies, Cultures of Target Language Countries, Newspaper Reading, Introduction to International Business, and Chinese, Political Sciences and Basic Computer Sciences. Courses are conducted on campus, 12-14 hours per week during afternoons, weekdays and weekends.
Since the official launching of the “Correspondence” (CP) degree program in 1987, more than 700 AEC students have graduated with AA degrees, majoring in English, Japanese, German and Arabic. AEC’s CP students learn not by correspondence in its real sense, but instead study on campus 8-10 hours per week, afternoons, weekdays and weekends. It now offers 3-year courses in English, leading to an AA degree, both for first-degree students and second-degree students. The courses CP offers include: General English, Conversation, Oral Interpretation, Written Translation, Listening, Watch-Listen-Talk (discussions on movies watched), Chinese, Political Sciences, and Basic Computer Sciences.
Applicants take the National Entrance Examinations, and enrollment is on the basis of competitive selection. However, only those applicants can take the English Proficiency Test given by HAEDP who have already earned their tertiary degree and study for a second tertiary degree. HAEDP confers relevant degrees to students upon their fulfillment of degree requirements.
(Application in March. Entrance Examinations in May. School begins in September)
